About The Soul-Esteem Center
The Soul-Esteem Center (SEC) is a community of those wanting to follow a positive path toward demonstrating more and more Divine potential in their everyday lives. We offer a nonjudgmental environment where one can learn and practice spiritual principles which will facilitate their journey.
Our teaching is a blend of philosophy, religion and science aimed at helping us practice the Love of God in our daily lives. Our main intention is to deepen our belief and faith in the healing power, peace, joy and abundance of God; to look beyond the physical, which often categorizes us as metaphysical. All religions could be described as metaphysical to the extent that they reach beyond the physical into more profound levels of trust in the One Source of all that is. The SEC is also considered a part of the New Thought movement, which teaches that Infinite Intelligence, or God, is everywhere present, that the soul is divine, and that right use of the mind has a healing effect.
The SEC was founded in 1997 by Rev. Phylis Clay Sparks and her late husband Roger Sparks. The vision was to create a warm and comfortable place in which to be lifted, inspired and motivated to put spiritual practices first so that the human experience comes into alignment with the peace, love and joy of God. Since then we have touched and empowered many lives. We do not offer formal membership, but instead a true sense of belonging, as we support each other in our spiritual growth and understanding of who we truly are as children of God.
Rev. Phylis Clay Sparks
Phylis Clay Sparks serves as the Spiritual Director and Senior Minister of The Soul-Esteem Center. She is also a professional speaker, teacher, workshop facilitator, spiritual counselor and author. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and the Earnest Holmes College School of Ministry in Orlando, Florida. She was a Dale Carnegie Course instructor for seven years and has written many articles on self-development for various publications. Before becoming an ordained minister, she was a professional artist and ran a highly successful interior design business.
Rev. Phylis began her spiritual journey in Christian Science at the age of ten. At twenty she continued her spiritual studies in the Divine Science movement, and later journeyed into the Unity movement. In 1985 she discovered the Science of Mind teaching which led her into becoming a spiritual practitioner and ultimately into ministerial training and ordination. Her desire to apply her passion for the ministry in a unique way led her to the founding of The Soul-Esteem Center in 1997.
Our Purpose Statement
We are dedicated to inspiring, encouraging and empowering the individual. Our intention is to honor all people and help everyone understand that we all share the common purpose of giving, loving and serving God and each other; that is, allowing ourselves to be instruments of Holy Spirit, emanations of the One Endless Light, in a way that brings greater harmony, love, abundance and well-being to our individual lives and to the world in which we live.
Our Mission Statement
The Soul-Esteem Center’s mission is to provide a spiritual community for people to discover and realize their true identity as individualized expressions of Divine Love, the One Infinite Universal Intelligence, which we call God. We teach the practice of universal spiritual principles through which the One Source pours Its unlimited wholeness, harmony and perfection into one’s life to the degree that the individual fosters their faith in God and practices allegiance to Divine Love and Law. In doing so we enhance our experience of life, care for each other, and participate in the evolution of a peaceful and environmentally wholesome planet.
